Richmond City offers services that many citizens aren’t aware of. Here is just a sampling of what your city does for you.
Richmond has two enterprise funds that are separate from the General Fund. One is for Water and the other for Sewer; you see these charges on each month’s utility bills from the city. All monies collected through monthly rates and impact fees go into these funds and cannot be used for anything but water or sewer. |
The Fire Department and EMT’s are made up from volunteers in our city. Without the dedication of these men and women, responses to emergencies such as fire, heart attack, stroke, vehicle accidents and more would be longer. Every minute counts in these situations. |
Both departments are looking for more volunteers. The city pays for all training and turnout gear and offers a minimal fee for each drill attended or call out to an emergency. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact Bob Hugo, Fire Chief, or Nick Sanders, EMT president. |
The city has a huge crew of three people (Rob, Ben and Tamara) that maintains our city. In addition to plowing the city streets and sidewalks in the winter, they maintain and repair all city utilities (water, sewer), care for the city park, repair and install sidewalks and streets, fill potholes, replace lightpoles, provide upkeep on all city-owned buildings, inspect new water and sewer connections to the city mains, and so on and so on. In other words, they always have a list of things to do, and each emergency (such as a water line break) reshuffles that list. |
Richmond has its own magistrate, Judge Beth Skidmore. She hears the cases and renders judgement. Municipal court is held each Wednesday evening at 7 pm in the city council chambers. Fines collected are sent to the state and a portion are returned to the city’s general fund. |
The park and adjacent area (sports field, grandstand area) and other areas throughout the community (such as Cub River Sports Complex) are also funded by the city. Many of the improvements to the park (sidewalks, restroom upgrade, etc.) are accomplished through Eagle Scout projects and grants from the county or state in addition to funds and labor from the city. |
...and the list goes on. Some areas not mentioned above include the library (books, videotapes, CDs, DVDs, high speed internet access, color printing, faxes); business license administration and enforcement; establishment and collection of property taxes, impact fees, sales tax, etc.; development of culinary water sources; approval of annexations to and subdivisions in the city; and more. In addition, the city contracts with the Cache County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement (we even provide an office for the deputies patrolling the north end of the county) and with Cache County for garbage and recycling services.
These services are administered by your city council (members are not paid) and depend on many volunteers in addition to the city staff. Without your support and helping hands, our city would not be the pleasant community it is. |
